The Power of Communities & Meetups
I stumbled upon a great article about the power of online communities, and how passionate some communities can be that even some members will tattoo the brand or product name on themselves. We see such examples of Harley Davidson and bikers tattooing the Harley brand on them. But here’s another example, a small internet broadcaster named “Keith and the Girl” have built such an incredibly strong community, that even members contribute to the show, in the form of money, administration work, and even some tattooing the show’s cartoonish picture.

Keith and the Girl were able to build their strong community through what is called “Meetups”. Basically, Meetups are a form of get-together in real life, in a real location by members of an online group or community. The radio show Keith and the Girl encouraged this amongst their member, to meet in real places, and build links amongst them. This gave a strong sense of reality and belonging to their listeners, and ultimately built a strong community.
So, from my last post about Building Community offline while being online, is the internet really become more of a reality social place?
