Der Wettbewerb wird härter und über Wissen entschieden, das steht außer Frage. Die Frage ist: Wo lernen die Wissensgesellschaften der Zukunft? Egal, ob Generation Y oder X oder „best ager“? Schule und Uni sind irgendwann zu Ende und im Web allein zu lernen, ist blöd, sind wir doch „social animals“. Hier liegt eine große Chance für die Kongresshäuser. Warum nicht Eigenveranstaltungen mit Eintritt auflegen zu Themen, die die Bürger beschäftigen: „Der mündige Patient – was muss er wissen?“; „Die perfekten Eltern – von Babyschwimmen bis Elite-Uni“ oder „Die „Silver surfer“ – Angebote für Nicht-Senioren…“.
Gut finde ich die Beispiele aus Innsbruck und Edinburgh. Nach dem Gipfel der Atomphysiker bzw. Polarforscher haben sie nach dem offiziellen Programm die Bühne frei gemacht für populärwissenschaftliche Vorträge. Schließlich waren die Experten sowieso vor Ort und „bezahlbar“. Das Publikum war hellauf begeistert über den Striptease des Polarforschers die lokale Frage: „Was passiert eigentlich in unserem Kongresshaus?“ ist beantwortet…
Welches Thema könnte wohl die Hannoveraner locken? Wir kommen auch!

Dr. Elling Hamso, 6/3/09 5:19 PMKerstin, I like your plea to meeting planners to take control of their own destiny before a travel manager or procurement tell them what to do. Here is a recipe:
1. Read all the SMMP stuff on www.nbta.org (Resource Library Whitepapers & Articles). Also Google Strategic Meeting Management.
2. Go knock on your procurement manager's door and ask for a senior procurement officer to join your project. Remember this is not about planning meetings, it is about how to apply good procurement practices to meetings
3. Don't think you can do it on your own without the benefit of those who have already done it. Kari Kesler has now left Honeywell and set up her own consulting practice, she is probably the leading world expert on the subject (kariknollkesler@gmail.com, 001 952 250 3378)
4. Make sure you know how to prove the value of meetings, this will make your project different from the travel management version, you want to look at both sides of the equation, ROI Methodology and Meeting Architecture are key concepts.
5. Praise yourself lucky you got there in time, raise your head and be a proud meeting management professional

August Moderer, 10/15/09 10:02 AMHerr Präsident, sie haben den Nagel auf den Kopf getroffen. Der Vortrag von Clements war ausserordentlich gut, so dass man eigentlich fragen muss, warum bestimmen solche Politiker nicht mehr was passiert in diesem Land!
